08:00 – 10:00 — Scenic Drive Across the High Atlas Mountains

We head south out of Marrakech toward the magnificent High Atlas Mountains—the highest mountain range in Morocco and one of the most dramatic landscapes in all of North Africa. As we ascend, we first stop in Ait Berka village at the foot of the mountain range, where you can take in your first views of the Atlas scenery and enjoy a short rest.

From there, we continue climbing toward the legendary Tizi N-Tichka Pass, which sits at an altitude of 2,260 meters above sea level. Along the way, we make several stops at scenic viewpoints so you can fully appreciate the scale and beauty of the surrounding landscape. Furthermore, you will pass through a series of traditional Berber villages clinging to the mountain slopes—their earthy red architecture blending seamlessly into the rocky terrain in a way that is uniquely and unmistakably Moroccan.

10:30 – 13:30 — Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah

Upon descending from the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, we arrive at one of Morocco’s most extraordinary destinations—the Ait Benhaddou kasbah. This ancient fortified village, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the finest and best-preserved examples of southern Moroccan earthen architecture in existence. Consequently, it has attracted filmmakers from around the world for decades.

In fact, the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah has served as a filming location for some of the world’s most iconic productions—including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, and the legendary television series Game of Thrones. As a result, walking through its narrow alleyways and climbing its ancient towers feels like stepping onto the set of history itself.

Additionally, your walking tour of the Kasbah takes you through its winding streets, past centuries-old earthen towers, and up to elevated viewpoints where the views of the surrounding desert landscape and the Ounila River below are simply spectacular. After exploring, enjoy a relaxed lunch in or around the Kasbah at a local restaurant (own expense) before continuing to Ouarzazate.

14:00 – 16:30 — Ouarzazate — The Hollywood of Africa

After lunch, we continue toward the remarkable city of Ouarzazate—Morocco’s most cinematic city and the undisputed “Gateway to the Desert.” Known internationally as the “Hollywood of Africa,” Ouarzazate has hosted productions from Hollywood blockbusters to international television series, and its unique desert light and dramatic landscapes continue to attract filmmakers from around the world.

Our first stop in the city is the world-famous Atlas Film Studios—one of the largest film studios in the world, where you can explore iconic sets, props, and costumes from productions including Gladiator, The Mummy, Babel, and Game of Thrones (entrance fee: approximately €8 per person, paid locally).

Subsequently, we visit the impressive Taourirt Kasbah—a magnificent 19th-century fortified palace in the heart of Ouarzazate. This beautifully restored Kasbah is one of the most important historical monuments in southern Morocco and offers a fascinating glimpse into the architectural grandeur and political power of the great Glaoui dynasty that once ruled the region.

16:30 — Return to Marrakech

After a full and deeply rewarding day of exploration, we begin our comfortable return journey to Marrakech via the Tizi N-Tichka Pass. You can sit back, relax, and reflect on an extraordinary one-day Morocco excursion as the Atlas Mountains glow in the warm light of the late afternoon sun.
