4-Day Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour

Day 1: Marrakech to Ait Benhaddou via Dades Gorge

We start this wonderful journey from the ochre city of Marrakech to enter into the High Atlas Mountains. You will be surprised to find the Berber villages on the mountain tops. This trip is the most beautiful of Marrakech tours, crossing the pass Tizi n’Tichka. Next up the historic Ait Benhaddou Kasbah (a world site, and one that makes you feel like an extra in a blockbuster movie!)

We visit the kasbah and then continue to the beautiful Dades Valley. Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga

We have a hearty breakfast and then drive out to the magnificent Todra Gorges. We’ll walk along beautiful high rock walls with clear running water. From there we follow the desert villages of Tinjdad and Erfoud, where the air starts to feel different, and finally on the distant horizon, the large expanse of the Sahara approaches.

Finally, we go to Erg Chebbi in the village of Merzouga, where we are met by a warm guide and camels. Then you can cross the golden dunes on your camel and see the longest sunset of your life. Later we spend the night in a luxury tented camp in the desert, enjoying a meal under the stars with traditional drumming music.

Day 3: Merzouga – Desert Exploration – Rissani

We happily wake up from our sleep to see the bright and glowing new dawn over the vast sand dunes. Then we go deeper into the Merzouga region on this Morocco desert trip: the best that you can do. We will be meeting nomad families for a more simple and heartwarming experience of life in the desert. Then, your heart will open by listening to spiritual Gnawa music in Khamlia village.

Then we walk through the traditional market of Rissani, where you can smell spices and tradition. This region is centered around its market, a major feature of any complete Marrakech trip. Here you can taste the tastiest of the famous desert dishes, “Madfouna,” or desert pizza. In the evening we drive back to our hotel at the dune line to take a break and relax in the impressive desert quietness before moving on to the big cities.

Day 4: Merzouga – Ifrane – Fes

We leave the sand behind us, heading north to ancient Fes, our final destination. In a spectacular view, we will drive through the Ziz Valley with its thousands of palm trees. The best Morocco trips in one journey: desert, mountains, and forests. Then we cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping at Azrou to see monkeys in their cedar forest.

Another highlight is a break in Ifrane city, which people tend to call “Little Switzerland” for its clean streets and cute houses.
