5-Day Marrakech to Fes Morocco Sahara Desert Tour

Day 1: Marrakech — Ait Benhaddou — Dades Valley

What better way to start our trip than in the great Marrakech? Our first stop allows us to get a look at the clouds as we ascend the winding roads of the High Atlas Mountains. You will pass many little Berber villages where the people live a very traditional life. Everyone knows this part of our Marrakech tours, and the views from the top are magic. We have a small halt at the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, where we can catch some fresh air and discover high peaks.

Then we visit the iconic village of Ait Benhaddou, where many famous movies were shot. Day 2: Dades Valley — Todra Gorges — Merzouga

We set out for the huge rock walls of Todra Gorges after a delicious breakfast. You will walk across the shallow river, looking up at the vertical cliffs that are sheer on one side. As we approach closer, you will notice the ground start to change into soft sand.

Finally, we arrive at the golden dunes of Merzouga, where your camels await you. You will mount your camel and ride through the soft sand into our desert camp. This experience lies at the core of every Moroccan desert trip. Enjoy the orange and purple sky as the sun sets. We are going to enjoy a nice dinner and then sleep in a warm tent. Day 3: Merzouga — Desert Exploration — Nomad Visit

We get up very early to see the sun rise above the large dunes. You will take plenty of pictures, as the colors are gorgeous. This is a very serene moment in your trip to Morocco. After breakfast, we start our deep desert excursion with our 4×4 car. In Khamlia, we enjoy spiritual music and traditional dance in the “Black Village”—it is a very joyful celebration.

Then we visit a family of nomads living in a tent to sip mint tea with them. You will learn how they live in the heat and where they get their water. This is what makes our trips in Morocco so unique and enriching for everyone. We also go to the old mines and, if there’s water in them, the desert lake. In the evening, we return to our hotel close to the dunes, where you can relax by the pool.

Day 4: Merzouga — Ziz Valley — Midelt

Today we are leaving the big dunes behind and starting traveling north. We continue through the Ziz Valley, where you can see millions of green palm trees. This is one of the most beautiful Morocco trips because the landscape changes so much in every moment. We pull over at a viewpoint to snap some pics of the valley before resuming our ride toward the apple town of Midelt.

Driving through the Middle Atlas Mountains, the air is cool and crisp. You will encounter various rock formations and stunning scenery. This is a very restful day on your Morocco desert tours. We will stay overnight in a nice little hotel in the mountains to relax and enjoy the silence.

Day 5: Midelt — Cedar Forest — Fes

On our final day, we drive through green forests on our way toward the ancient city of Fes. We make our way through the Cedar Forest, where we find lots of wild monkeys. You can pause to feed them little snacks and snap goofy pictures. Your tours from Marrakech will provide plenty of fresh air here. Then we go to Ifrane, which people call “Little Switzerland” because of its European architecture and tidy red roofs.
